BRIEF OUTLINE

University Project

With Creative Technologies emerging as a tool within design, this brief looked at their use within society and how they have changed the world for good or bad.

INITIAL RESEARCH

Research

With Creative Technologies the focal point of the brief. Research was carried out into the current creative technologies available and their impact with society.

REFINED RESEARCH

Research

Following on from the initial research, Facial Recognition Technology seemed to be a creative technology that was very controversial. There was a very negative stigma towards the use of facial recognition technology with many questions being raised about its use of data as well as It'd accuracy with high rates of mis-identification.

CASE'S OF MISIDENTITY

Research

After carrying out base research into Facial Recognition Technology, the next step was to research into existing case of misidentification by Facial Recognition Technology. When carrying out this research it became apparent that there is a trend within the misidentification that is discriminatory towards those of ethnic minority

RESEARCH STATISTICS

Research

After noticing a trend within misidentification being linked with those of ethnic minority, research was carried out into the statistics behind this trend. When carying out this research it became apparent that this was a massive issue that needed bringing to the publics attention as it was cleaer that facial recognition was discriminatory to those of ethnic minority.

USER RESEARCH

Research

Following on from the research, I wanted to  carry out some user research in the form of interviews targeted at those who may be affected by misidentification. Two candidates where picked to participate in the interviews and the outcomes are seen to the right.

CONCEPT PROBLEM
STATMENT

“Facial Recognition Technology discriminates against people of black and ethnic minority. Due to a lack of awareness around the issue many are not aware of the impact this has on victims. ”

IDEA GENERATION

Concept

When beginning the concept phase of the design process, I used idea generation methods to confirm my idea of creating an application that aimed to raise awareness

BRAND IDENTITY

Concept

Before starting prototyping, it was essential that the concept had a brand identity to tie the concept together. With the concept being based on the discrimination of ethnic minorities, the use of a skin-tone colour palette felt necessary, with the use of an abstract user face as the O within the YOURFACE branding.

APPLICATION FEATURES

Concept

When finishing the concept stage, it was time to finalise the application features that will be included, to the right is the 4 key features that were to be visualised within the app.

Low Fidelity Wireframes

Prototyping

With the concept phase wrapped up, I began thinking about the layout. To the right is the intial low fidelty wireframes which where designed with the target auidfence in mind and the focus of the application on raising awareness.

High Fidelity Wireframes

Prototyping

Using the low fidelty wireframes a base to begin the high fidelty wireframes. I began added images, text anmd relevant matrial to the base, creating a sleek design.

MODERATED USER TESTING

User Testing

After finalising my high fidelity wireframes, i utilised user testing, in the form of moderated user testing, to collect user feedback on the applications design and user experience.

USER TESTING FEEDBACK

Prototyping

When analysing the feedback post-user testing, there were a couple of changes suggested by the feedback, that could be made to benefit the user experience. To the left is the changes made within the application.

OUTCOME - YOURFACE
APPLICATION

Concept application that aims to raise awareness among the general public, around the discrimination caused by Facial Recognition Technology towards those of black and ethnic minority.
